Current project status: 24/24 socks complete.

I'm Not Gone

Despite rumours to the contrary, I’m not dead. I haven’t been knitting much in 2019 (still have to get back to that sweater I started at the end of last year), and the knitting I did do ended up being for Christmas gifts, so I’m holding off on posting those. I also started and ripped out a couple of socks because I was getting some laddering between needles; when this has happened in the past, I had to drop a needle size and switch to a 72 stitch sock, so those yarns are currently in detention until I get the motivation to knit with them.

I did finish the Christmas socks I started last year (and had them done in time for the holidays, but forgot to post them here).

I did just finish one pair of socks though, just a vanilla pair in Kroy, but it was enough to get my motivation back.

Project Complete

Project success! I have completed my twelfth pair of socks this year. This pair was knit from the leftover yarn from the previous pairs. There were a lot of ends to weave, but I think it’s a nice end to the project. I’m going to keep the website and Instagram account live to document future projects.

Blue Tit

This is my eleventh completed pair. The end of the project is in sight, so these went very fast–the fastest I’ve ever knit a pair.

Moss Rib Socks

This is my tenth completed pair. This yarn is a little finer than what I usually use, so I had to go up to 72 stitches and go down to 2.25mm needles.

Owl Socks

This is my ninth completed pair. These ones went pretty quickly, just over two weeks to complete them. They’re a little smaller than most of mine because I’m setting them aside for a Christmas gift. I decided to knit these early since I have the FlexiFlip needles for this yarn, but a lot of my other stashed sock yarn is lighter and I get laddering if I use the 2.75mm needles. I now have the 2.5mm and 2.25mm ones in hand, so I can proceed on the finer yarn for the next pair without going back to the real DPNs.

Cotton Socks

This pair took me what feels like forever to finish. I think it was mostly because of my attention being elsewhere in my down time, but it seemed like these socks were cursed to take a long time. For a while I didn’t know if I’d manage to actually wear the cotton socks while the weather was still warm. In any case, they’re done now; and that makes eight pairs and sixteen socks completed.

I did toe-up for these socks, because I didn’t have any other cotton to do a heel with, and I didn’t want to run out of yarn before I got to my toe. I like my socks to be fairly tall, so I usually have to do a contrast heel to be on the safe side of running out. The toe-up thing didn’t impress me: having to use a different cast on, different bind-off, and increasing a bunch of stitches for the toe seemed like it was more troublesome than just starting at the cuff. I can only see myself doing it again in the same situation (not knowing how far the yarn will make it).

Cinnamon

I’m really late posting this one, but I finished the pair in May. It’s pair seven, socks thirteen and fourteen. I used the FlexiFlips needles again, and I’m sold on them now.

This sock came out a little larger than I expected, I think the yarn is a bit thicker than my previous pair.

Van Gogh's Blue Jay

The project is halfway complete. This is pair six, socks eleven and twelve. For these ones I tried out the new addi FlexiFlips DPNs, I’m not 100% sure on them yet, so I’m going to use them again for the next pair and then possibly write a little about them on there.

Pennants

Pair number five (socks nine and ten) is done. This one took a little longer, as the pattern took a bit more concentration to not lose my place.

Vanilla is the New Black

This is pair number four complete, and less than two months in. I’m getting far enough ahead of pace that I might be able to take on some other projects and not let this one down. This was a new heel pattern for me, and I’m still not sure if I like it or not; I’ll have to see how it fits, but I usually like a contrast heel (partially for looks, partially so that I don’t run out of yarn) which this doesn’t really allow for.

Alpaca Gingham Socks

Socks five and six (pair three) have been completed. These are sport weight ones, so they went pretty fast, even with the pattern. I used two complete balls (less than 1g left over of each) of the main colour, and about 75% of a ball of the black.

Green/Yellow Socks

The second pair have been completed. This uses up the last of the Drops Fabel that I have on hand. These knit up pretty quickly, especially after coming off a patterned pair.

Basket Rib Socks

The first pair of socks have been completed. I cast on the first one on New Year’s Day, and started the second one on January 5. The texture sort of got lost in the print nature of the yarn, so I may revisit this pattern again later on a plain yarn. I would have gone for a single-colour yarn this time, but the only ones I have on hand are lighter, and I have to go down a needle size and up to a 72 stitch sock to not get laddering.
